A Meeting to Share the Research Results of Rural Electrification Enhancement Based on Photovoltaic Technologies Concluded with Success

---On September 8, sponsored by United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) and China International Center for Economic and Technical Exchanges (CICETE), the meeting to share the research results of a Global SSDC Small-grant Project named “Research on Rural Electrification Enhancement Based on Photovoltaic Technologies in Amazonas Region of Peru” was successfully held by National Research Institute for Rural Electrification (NRIRE) of the Ministry of Water Resources of China. Attendees include governmental officials and experts from four Latin American countries such as Peru, Costa Rica, Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela, and other Asian and African countries like Armenia, Czech Republic, Jordan, Laos, Morocco, Nepal, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, etc. totaling 36.

At the meeting, Mr. Meng Ke, the project coordinator, shared the results of field survey carried out in a typical rural area of Peru, made analysis on the feasibility of application of photovoltaic technology in Latin America, and put forward suggestion for the promotion of rural electrification using different photovoltaic technologies. The meeting was warmly responded, and participants agreed that the research results of the project would provide methodologies and solutions for improving people’s livelihood in remote areas of Latin America and other developing countries.

The project aims to study the feasibility of establishing small PV-based energy storage system to strengthen the power supply capacity of rural power grid and using off-grid household PV system to improve the utilization rate of rural electrical appliances. This will help to tackle local power shortage, optimize energy allocation, improve living condition and local environment, and further promote Chinese PV technology and equipment, enhance cooperation between China and Latin-American countries. The results of the research will be shared with involved parties and contribute to the realization of SDGs for a long run.(2023-09-12)
