2018 Training Course on Small Hydropower Technology for Rwanda Inaugurated in Kigali Successfully

---Entrusted by the Ministry of Commerce of China, "2018 Training Course on Small Hydropower Technology for Rwanda" was successfully inaugurated by HRC in Kigali on July 18th. Mr. Felix Gakuba, Managing Director of Energy Development Corporation Ltd. (EDCL) of Rwanda Energy Group, and Mr. Claude Benimana, Vice Principal of Integrated Polytechnic Regional Center (IPRC) attended the opening ceremony. Mr. Huang Jianping, Deputy Director General of HRC delivered a speech on the ceremony.

The ceremony was held at IPRC, Kigali. Mr. Huang Jianping briefed HRC’s international cooperation in the field of small hydropower and rural electrification. He also pointed out that in recent years, African countries have continued to call for attention to industrialization and electrification projects, in order to promote the sustainable development in the region. Based on the theme of small hydropower, this training course was designed according to actual requirements of Rwanda, which has been adopted as one of important measures to help electrification progress and promote the industrialization development. Mr. Felix Gakuba expressed his sincere gratitude to Chinese government and HRC for the contribution and help in capacity building of small hydropower and rural electrification. He hoped that similar training courses can be held continuously, so that more local technicians will get benefit. He also expected more in-depth, multi-level and comprehensive cooperation in the field of small hydropower, rural electrification and renewable energy will be carried out between China and Rwanda.

The 25-day training course is the 4th one specially for Rwanda from year 2015 and the 100th one since its establishment, focusing on the sharing of SHP-related developing practice, proven technology and applicable equipment of China, and also including subjects related to water resources management, dam safety and risk control, river course conservancy and other renewable energies. Site visits will be arranged to the laboratory of University of Technology and Art of Byumba (UTAB) and other SHP projects in North Province of Rwanda. 50 technicians and administrative staffs from Rwanda Energy Group, University of Rwanda, IPRC, UTAB, COFORWA, Ngali Energy Group, Novel Energy, Prime Energy and Rwanda Mountain Tea attended the training.
