HRC Delegate Attended Forum on New and Renewable Energy

   ---Sponsored by Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China, China-Japan-Korea S&T Cooperation Forum on New and Renewable Energy was held in Beijing on July 17th, 2008. It was first proposed by Premier Wen Jiabao in the 8th China-Japan-Korea Leaders' Meeting and won support from the Japanese and Korean leaders. Mr. Zhao Jianda, senior engineer, from the Department of International Cooperation, Science and Technology of HRC, attended the forum.
   Mr. Xu Dingming, Deputy Director of the Office of the National Energy Leading Group of the People's Republic of China , pointed out that the future development of energy would feature cleanness, high efficiency, diversification and sustainability. Mr. Xu Haishen, from the Department of International Cooperation, Science and Technology, MST, noted that it was a shared choice to stress on international cooperation on science and technology and develop vigorously new and renewable energy in an effort to increase energy supply and reduce consumption and greenhouse gas emission.
   Experts present at the forum conducted extensive discussion centering on three topics of policy and management of new and renewable energy; technological exchange and cooperation; and industrialized cooperation . It was pointed out at the meeting that fruitful achievements had been scored in the field of new and renewable energyin China, Japan and Korea, but there was still large room for cooperation.
   It was proposed that we should stress on six points to strengthen exchange and cooperation in this field among three countries. First, we should abide by principles of mutual benefit, protection of intellectual property right, sharing of advanced technology and technological innovation; Second, the governments should pay efforts to help lay the foundation for cooperation related to new and renewable energy, which is the priority field for the cooperation among the governments in China, Japan and Korea ; Third, favorable policies should be adopted to promote technology cooperation in the field of solar, wind, biomass and thermal energy and encourage the establishment of laboratories and industry bases; Fourth, manufacture and research cooperation among three countries should be carried out in the field of new and renewable energy; Fifth, we should pay continuous attention to the issue of energy and conduct exchange and cooperation in various forms. Besides, new technology and achievements should be shared; Sixth, exchange and visits among the science, technology and business talents, and the government officials in the three countries should be promoted.(2008-08-04)
